Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Audit Specialist to review and audit patient records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. In this role, you will ensure proper documentation practices, identify discrepancies, and support regulatory compliance initiatives. This position is ideal for individuals interested in health information management, auditing, and healthcare quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
Audit medical records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
Review clinical documentation and coding for consistency
Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions
Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations and standards
Collaborate with healthcare providers and coding teams
Maintain detailed audit reports and documentation
Support internal and external audit processes
Monitor trends and identify areas for improvement
Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA standards
Assist in training staff on documentation best practices
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field
2–4 years of experience in medical records, coding, or auditing
Strong knowledge of medical documentation and coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS)
Familiarity with healthcare regulations and compliance standards
Strong analytical and attention-to-detail skills
Good communication and reporting abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Certification such as RHIT, RHIA, CPC, or CCS
Experience in healthcare auditing or quality assurance roles
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems
Knowledge of reimbursement and compliance processes
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
